Cook Like It’s 1999: Winners!

Here are this week's winners of our "Cooking Through the Decades" historical recipe challenge.

Welcome to “Cooking Through the Decades,” a 10-week journey through the 20th century, where you can let our revamped retro recipes take you back through history. Cook along with us for a chance to win cookbooks and an America’s Test Kitchen apron autographed by Bridget Lancaster.

It’s been a long century. We’ve seen ostentation and austerity, cold ovens and one-pot meals, with a generous helping of Jell-O. The twentieth century in food leaves us in the nineties, with the the showiness of Britney Spears and fusion food. This final challenge showed how much our readers love the nineties, as showed by their fantastic efforts at Thai Shrimp Scampi.

Congratulations to Sayaka Hanada and Chin S. Leong, whose fabulous fusion cooking won them autographed aprons and pre-release copies of The Complete Cook’s Country TV Show Cookbook. See their mouthwatering photos at the bottom of this post. And congratulations to all of our historically-minded cooks who participated in these challenges – we’re glad you could join us in Cooking Through The Decades!

Hungry for more? The party won’t stop with more 1990s dishes: To make a dish nineties appropriate, add sun-dried tomatoes to anything (e.g. Sun-Dried Tomato Basil Pesto Pasta Salad); top your pizza with anything, especially BBQ Chicken; wrap anything in prosciutto, as in Prosciutto-Wrapped Pork Tenderloin with Herb Pan Sauce; and squish anything in a panini press, like in our Portobello, Mozzarella, and Fresh Basil Panini.

Thank you. I’ve just received today the Cook’s Country TV Show Cookbook. However, I didn’t received the apron that was supposed to be autographed by Bridget Lancaster. I’m disappointed because I was looking forward to that red apron :(
