Yesterday, on patios across the nation, from sea to shining sea, we celebrated our country. We grilled. We baked. We watched fireworks and parades. We watched incredible amounts of hot dogs be eaten, or we ate them ourselves. Morning, noon, and night, we toasted our fair country, for food is a force that gives us meaning. We eat to give ourselves strength. We eat to feel a sense of community. Yesterday, some of us ate to break a record, and may have felt a bit queasy as a result. This week, we are highlighting photographs of the best things you ate in service of your country, from a hearty breakfast to get the big day started, to a classic Southern side, finished off by a dessert that may even be more American than apple pie. Happy Birthday, America. This one’s for you.
