COOKBOOK GIVEAWAY
Comment before noon EST, Tuesday, May 8, for a chance to win a copy of Pasta Revolution; one winner will be chosen at random.
Clogs. Vintage aprons. A superhero cape. Whatever it is, putting on a favorite outfit and looking awesome (and feeling comfortable) is a huge part of cooking. Whether it’s a treasured square plucked from your personal bandanna collection or a baggy sweatshirt pilfered from your boyfriend’s closet, whatever you’re wearing can heighten (if not make more snazzy) the entire kitchen experience.
We asked around America’s Test Kitchen for their favorite things to wear while cooking. Here are a sampling:
Yoga pants! Gotta be comfortable when you’re cooking.
My boyfriend’s mother got me this ridiculous, girly, frilly, pink apron as a graduation present. I don’t even like to think about how much it must have cost. I would never have bought it for myself, but it’s covered in useful pockets and after two years of warming up to it I LOVE wearing that ruffle-covered thing while I cook. I also refuse to cook wearing shoes. Ever.
My favorite apron… from Questionable Content.
Chaps and a cowboy hat.
And now for the Silly Question of the Day…
What is your favorite thing to wear while cooking?
Leave your silly answer in the comments!

Usually a sundress (in the summer), barefeet– apron only if frying.
I usually like wearing sweats because they’re comfortable and I don’t have to worry about getting them dirty. After cooking, I’ll change into something more fancy when dinner guests arrive.
I usually don’t even remember to change out of work clothes and get everything covered in flour and/or grease.
I’ll usually change back into my sweats or my pjs if i’m not already wearing my worst jeans and a t-shirt. sometimes i make a special effort to wear my king arthur “bake” t-shirt when i’m baking.
Shoes. This is really silly, because rationally I know that my ballet flats won’t protect me from the hot and sharp things in the kitchen, but I feel vulnerable without, all the same. Also, a couple of flowery aprons that my mom made.
slippers, leggings and a wifebeater. all-out classy!
An apron if there’s going to be any mess involved. Plus I like to wear a shirt with short sleeves or long sleeves that can be rolled up – it bugs me to have the sleeves down, getting in my way and getting wet and dirty.
If it’s early, I’m still in my skivvies with a t-shirt on, hoping the windows are high enough that the neighbors can’t see me. Oh, and if I’m making pizza or anything involving wine/berries/tomatoes, I’m usually wearing a white shirt…but that’s out of stupidity, not choice!
Cooking in the nude
As a birthday present, I got an apron that said “Out of my kitchen, noob” on the front. I still wear it to this day.
I always wear the cupcake apron that my brother gave me!
I love wearing my hot pink flannel pj pants, socks with slippers so I can slide around the kitchen and a super long tank top…also hair in a big goofy bun on top of my head to keep it out of my face and out of my food! That is my ideal cooking and baking outfit.
My striped apron with huge pockets!
My apron!
Whaterver is most comfortable, and typically no shoes.
Slippers and robe…well not always during the day. Then it is whatever is comfy and cool. Hate being hot in the kitchen.
I usually wear my comfy pj’s and socks. My granddaughters sit on the counter-top and “help” so I am ready for just about anything – especially their hugs!
I’ll cook in what ever I’m wearing – just need to have a towel slung over my shoulder.
A Vera Bradley apron – of course I always forget to put it on until AFTER I’ve splattered oil all over myself.
My Star Wars apron that my eight year old sous chef also has. We both wear them when we are cooking together. And when we are not together, putting it on reminds me of the fun we have together.
My apron with a Beaver on it that says “Damn Great Cook”. Never cook a meal for company without it.
My fav thing to cook in is my robe..
This was really entertaining! Thanks all — would anyone like to put on a fashion show? Congrats to this week’s random winner, imiss, who appreciates the warm-fuzzy trappings of a familiar robe. Everyone, be sure to check out our newest giveaways at http://americastestkitchenfeed.com/topics/giveaway/
