I’m going to represent my hometown this week with an ode to the Pittsburgh Pirates. As a kid, my Dad had season tickets to every summer game where my sister and I consumed way too much blue cotton candy and tried to catch baseballs with the hopes of getting it autographed. But there was one important part of the game that we always looked forward to (other than fireworks night): the “Great Pierogi Race.” Where Jalapeño Hannah, Cheese Chester, Sauerkraut Saul, and Oliver Onion compete in running the bases in-between innings. All the kids would run to the edge of the stands and root for their favorite pierogi to race around the field. Those were the days.
Now, my mother always found her pierogies in the freezer section of the grocery store and added the caramelized onions as a homemade touch, but who knew these Polish gems could be made by hand? Not me! Which leads me to Shanon’s post over at The Curvy Carrot, this week’s blogger spotlight. Not only did she find time in her hectic schedule to make a homemade dinner, but she made some beautiful homemade pierogies! And they look great, don’t they? Props to you Shanon… I might just have to go re-live my childhood this weekend.
