Today we throw the spotlight on Rafa, the lovable furball in our latest cat cameo. He belongs to assistant editor Amy Scheuerman.
(In case you didn’t know, the America’s Test Kitchen offices [not the kitchen] are dog-friendly. Every once in a while, we’ll share a furry moment from our resident four-legged friends. Stay tuned for the cute.)

Rafa might look very cat-like, but he’s just dying to be promoted to the position of Test Kitchen Dog. This 8-month-old furball was adopted from a local animal rescue organization in Boston and was named for Rafa Nadal after showing an obsession with the French Open at the precocious age of 8 weeks.

While he’s been told repeatedly that cats can’t come to work at America’s Test Kitchen, Rafa holds out hope. Each morning he hops into assistant editor Amy Scheuerman’s bag in an attempt to sneak into the office. He’s even forged friendships with pups to show how ready he is.

Instead, Rafa has had to show his support for the Test Kitchen in other ways. He reviews all of Amy’s writing before it goes out and event tries to help her type sometimes.

When not assisting with editorial decisions, Rafa enjoys the good life. Despite a cat tree and toys from feather wands to jingle balls, he’s generally content with a wine cork or even a piece of fruit to play with.

He plays hard, and is full of mischief, but how can you not love a face like this?

I miss miss miss my cat Kassie who died in 2009 at the age of 18. She was my own kitchen companion and loved sampling whatever I was making.
Especially if it were ahi tuna. She couldn’t get enough of that.
Goodbye my angel.
I’m glad the test kitchen has Rafa. And I hope he gets plenty of snacks outside of lemons.
