COOKBOOK GIVEAWAY
Comment before noon EST, Tuesday Oct 11, for a chance to win a copy of The Cook’s Country Cookbook; one winner will be chosen at random.
This is a pretty straightforward silly question, illustrated by a little arithmetic:
what you like to drink + what you like to eat = !!!
What’s your pairing of choice? It can be classic (e.g. champagne and oysters), idiosyncratic (e.g. tater tots and a michelada), deeply nostalgic (for me, greasy suburb-chain pepperoni pizza and soda fountain root beer was the best post-swim-meet celebratory dinner as a 9-year-old), or inexplicable (e.g. shrimp cocktail and a Frappuccino).
We asked around America’s Test Kitchen on some of their most thrilling food and drink duos. Here are some favorites:
Bananas and Nutella. What, you don’t drink your Nutella?
I really, really love a toasted hoagie and a Diet Coke. While it’s not the same as a sub roll, now that I’ve found a decent gluten-free bread (Udi’s!), I can re-create this any time I want. There’s something about a sandwich and soda combo that will never get old to me.
Beer floats: nothing beats Guinness and vanilla ice cream.
And now for the Silly Question of the Day…
What is your favorite (or most inspired) food and drink pairing?
Feel free to take any poetic liberties; and accompanying stories welcome.
Leave your silly answer in the comments!
P.S. Here are some improvisational pairings, all with free recipes. Tempting?
cold-brewed coffee + bespoke energy bars
homemade root beer + pulled pork
infused vodka + chicken nuggets

Bleu cheese and barleywine beer
Good cappuccino and a gelato-stuffed crepe. Best dessert ever.
Doritos and ice cold Pepsi in the can. Its my ultimate comfort “meal”.
BBQ chips and Nutella on a spoon for dessert. I can’t escape salt and something sweet to finish it.
Lemonade & fish tacos = summer
A turkey sam or sub with a cup of hot black tea.
Kale chips and IPA go surprisingly well together.
Pretty cliche, but milk and chocolate chip cookies.
Pepsi and Cheez-It crackers. Don’t judge me.
Fritos and orange pop.
Give me any Mexican Food with Dos Equis or a Corona and I’m in HEAVEN.
champagne & foie gras
Bubbles and bivalves (champagne & oysters)
Enchiladas and a margarita
Shepherd’s pie and a stout beer
I am sticking to something classic – a nice T-Bone steak, medium rare, and a very tanin heavy Cabernet.
Fudgesicles and Gerwurztraminer…
Olympia, Hama Hama, or Kumomoto oysters with great champagne!
living in Virginia, I crave food from my hometown in western NY– beef on weck and Apple Cider milkshake!
The ultimate drink pairing for me is a dozen oysters on the half shell with a Quintessential Gin martini extra dry up with 3 olives. The brininess from the oysters and the botanical notes of the gin is an outstanding flavor combination to behold.
A slice of cake – any cake – and coffee!
Sushi and plum wine! The slightly acidic alcohol paired with wasabi-soy sauce on the sushi gives a pleasant kick!
Goat Cheese and Walnuts. (My salivary glands just kicked in thinking about those two…)
Duff’s wings & icy Molson
Rootbeer and pizza OR chocolate cake (with chocolate whipped cream frosting) and ice cold milk. Mmmmm…
Ovaltine and mac n’ cheese… they helped me through several late-night study sessions in college!
Moules and frites with a Belgian quad. Friday night, here I come!
It’s gorgeous outside, and I could really go for one of my favorite pairings : White wine and some fantastic cheese.
Cookies ‘n milk.
Tea and shortbread cookies, after long deliberations.
Chocolate milk and Baked Mac & Cheese. I’m from WI, we have dairy in our veins!
Chicken tikka masala with naan and vegetable samosas washed down with a Kingfisher beer. Yum!
New York style pizza and Coca Cola Classic… Yum
