“Dish It Your Way” Blogger Challenge Week 11 Recap

Challenging bloggers to showcase their own versions of classic American dishes.

Cupcake

We just wrapped up the eleventh and final week of our summer-long “Dish It Your Way” Blogger Challenge, where we asked food bloggers to showcase their versions of American regional dishes. Thank you to those who participated in this week’s challenge.

Labor Day weekend cupcake baking got our bloggers’ creative juices flowing. Despite its small stature, the cupcake inspired memories of summer, birthdays, and childhood. These stories proved that cupcakes are timeless, not trendy, treats. Some of the recipes were whimsical, while others put sophisticated flavor pairings on display. Stay tuned, because we’ll be revealing the winner here tomorrow.

Below are some excerpts from all of our submissions this week. Make sure to visit these great food blogs and read these cupcake crafters’ stories in full!

Kimberly Belle, by Kimberly Belle (@kimberlybelle): Carrot Coconut Cupcakes
“Though versatile in a supporting role, nothing showcases carrots’ flexibility so much as featuring them in savory-sweet cupcakes.”

Cooking, Cronk, and a Crazy Dog, by Sean Ingber (@chefnsean): Cream-Filled Chocolate Cupcakes
“These are so much better than packaged cupcakes. They are incredibly choclatey, containing both cocoa powder and chocolate chips, as well as a small amount of instant espresso to enhance the chocolate flavor.”

Art of Dessert, by Rianne: Vegan Chocolate Cupcakes
“They’re so moist and chocolatey, you can’t even tell there’s no eggs, milk or butter in them :-)

The Recipe Hoarder, by Annie Webster (@RecipeHoarder): Wedding Cupcakes
“The cupcakes were a big hit. I would go so far as to say they were perfect. Everything about that day was perfect.”

Keep it Luce, by Anna Luce (@keepitluce): Lemon Angel Food Cupcakes with Fresh Raspberry Buttercream
“To me, it encompasses the light, airy batter perfect for a summery send off, topped with not-too-sweet berry goodness that leaves us wanting more fresh berries indicative of this summertime, all while being contained in a personalized package with no need for forks or plates!”

Tasty April, by April Hall (@mediaapril): My Peachy Treat
“…They went like hotcakes! Or, rather, cupcakes.”

LoV Bites, by Jennifer Tucker (@jenmabey): Chocolate Dipped Cone Cupcakes
“I took my birthday cupcake of choice from childhood to the next level. Instead of a just simple cupcake in a cone, I decided on chocolate dipped cones!”

Kitchen Tangents, by Bethanie Humphreys: Chocolate Peanut Butter Potato Chip Cupcakes
“…Did she just say potato chips on cupcakes? Yes, yes I did. You know deep down a salted crunch goes perfectly with peanutty frosting and chocolaty baked goodness.”

Lynn Deasy, by Lynn Deasy (@LynnDeasy): Cupcake Experiments
“Cupcakes are just not a French thing. No matter how hard I tried, I was not able to adapt this classic to my new location.”

Joys and Disasters, Jenny Mertes (@Jenesis76): The 179-Year-Old Cup Cake
“I couldn’t resist tasting: Wow! Light, delicate, not airy or spongy, but delicious.”

All’s Fare Food Blog, by Christina Relacion (@CRelacion): Neopolitan Cupcakes
“Neopolitan ice cream has long been a favorite of mine…I got to thinking one day, ‘Why can’t I make a Neopolitan cupcake?’”

The Magic Apron, by Elizabeth Wagner (@themagicapron): Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcakes
“The peanut butter was sunken into the cupcake a bit and after you ate it, the full flavor hit your tastebuds. After eating one, a bridesmaid said, ‘This cupcake changed my life.’”
