    Just do not put the sharpened edge towards the stapled side or you will dull it quickly. If you are bringing them to be sharpened you can just drop them in an oven mitt. A good professional sharpener will give you nice sleeves for free for each knife. Do not roll them up in a dish towel . As a professional sharpener, I have seen lots of knives drop out of dish towel rolls on to the floor.
