Our country store with a happy Santa. Years ago, when they decided to no longer sell gas, they simply put up a sign that said, "Regular, $8.35 per gallon!"

Jolly Santas may not be the height of modern design, but they look great on a wintry night on a Vermont porch.

Here is a nice shot for everyone who lives in Florida! Doesn't this make you a wee bit jealous?

Here is the porch of one of my neighbors just up the road. Illuminated candy canes add to the frenzied clutter of the front yard. One of my favorites.

Sweet ♡ memories! I have a dear friend who lives in West Rutland. I helped him pick out his first home. A beautiful, postcard worthy views! A dream. Then, #confession, I flew back to my Arizona warmth! ♥
THANKS 4real…for great straight forward teaching/sharing!
Dawn …
Love the Christmastime pictures of Vermont! Also, always look forward to the Letter from Vermont.
Hi,
You know what would simplify our lives and save time in the kitchen? An online or downloaded index of recipes from all of our many issues of Cooks Illustrated!
Thanks,
Dick & Diana Voelkel
Absolutely beautiful!!! Thanks for posting these-I’m one of your FL fans, so the pics are a real treat. Such a lovely little town!
Just a brief comment from Florida——The pictures are great, but too many shovels full of that white stuff in my past to make me jealous.
Chris, I agree about your assessment of the “stately entrance”. but I suspect (like here in NH) that is the entrance for show, No one is going to traipse over those angels for very long. The actual entrance used by the household probably looks much more vintage Vermont, and is tucked out of sight around the side or back. john
Chris those are very nice photos. Several would make great Christmas cards.
Love the photos from my home state.
Born in Montpelier, raised in Newfane.
In Colorado now, our winters seem shorter and milder than VT.
Really miss the quaint holidays we shared in New England. We hope to do a holiday vacation with our children + grand children soon – plan to rent a house in VT for a couple of weeks – can’t wait!!
I couldn’t help but comment on the houses you have posted, those were the houses I painted when I first started in the trade they were beautiful houses, the oldest house I ever painted was in southern new England, Gilford conn. built in 1776. you have a great program and really good cooks. I was better at painting than I am at cooking. thanks
I love your photos of your quaint Vermont town and the newsletter you send out that makes me feel like a part of your family. I am a part of your family in that I love your TV show on PBS and ATK. You are “the bomb” Chis and so is your awesome team that works so well for your programs.
love the pictures. i’m from sunny florida, it’s 80 out now, but the snow pictures remind me of fun times in connecticut. love picture 13 with the door, wreath, and the angels. thanks.
Hi Dick & Diana Voelkel, you can find a cumulative index for Cook’s Illustrated content here: http://www.cooksillustrated.com/bookstore/detail.asp?PID=557 Also, the Cook’s Illustrated Cookbook is quite comprehensive and is essentially all the content from the last 20 years. Hope that helps!
These pics remind me of all the snowy holidays I loved growing up in northern New Jersey, and living, later, in Boston and New Hampshire. Your ‘Letters from Vermont’ are always enjoyable.
I enjoy testing recipes for ‘Friends of CI’ as well as watching America’s Test Kitchen – and I’ve just started the Cooking School. Again, thanks for the glimpses of Vermont life. Keep them coming.
Chris, Your pictures are wonderful. You must have taken a course on photography and have a good camera. Thanks so much for sharing. I especially love the tree with the snow and lights underneath it and also the stately entrance one. Our Christmas In West Virginia was not this beautiful. It was very nice but always miss sharing it with Bridget and her family in Massachusetts and other members of the family.
Every year we watch White Christmas, I long for a trip to Vermont. Someday, I am really going to go and stay in a Bed and Breakfast, enjoy all the wonderful places to see and eat at great restaurants but the highlight will be visiting your test kitchen!
As a former New Englander (I live in Sunny Southern California now), I LOVE your books, online stuff, monthly letters, etc! I particularly enjoyed your pictures this month and have forwarded them to my 3 children, all of whom have moved away from Connecticut. Thanks for all your wonderful recipes!
Love your letters from Vermont.
But you guys and gals on PBS are the greatest!
I have always loved the combined effect of lights, evergreen foliage and snow. But I especially like the combined effect seen only in recent years with the advent of LED holiday lights which give off no heat whatsoever — they will glow through the snow without melting it.
Being from Minnesota, I can relate to the snow & cold which, by the way, I do enjoy. Your letter from Vermont is a joy to read & the pictures are beautiful! I really enjoy ATK, you’re a great host & it’s easy to tell you have a lot of fun with the great team you have! Love CI & CC, too!
Visiting the New England states is on my travel planner in the next couple years! So looking forward to seeing your beautiful area of the country!
Lovely pictures but I’m happy in 78 degree Sarasota, FL today.
Hi from Vancouver,Canada:
Loved your photos and I also look forward to your letter from Vermont. Only wish that PBS would air your cooking shows ever week. You and your staff obviously enjoy working together and your show is great.
Quaint, sweet, quiet and beautiful. I want to visit!
Greetings from Dallas, Texas
Snow is not something we get in abundance in this area, though we did have a white Christmas this year. Being from Ohio, Cleveland to be exact, snow is not something new to me and I remember the beauty that came with it. As a child I recall praying that Christmas would find the fluffy white stuff everywhere and like Ralphy in the Christmas Story would usually awake to the exact thing that he saw. The frost on the windows and dressing in front of the register hold a special place in my memories. Miss those days and especially those presents!! The closeness of families and friends was everywhere l and growing up in the 1950′s was very special.
Love your show and your staff of experts is awesome… Never miss a show. May 2013 be your best year yet. Lou
Dear Chris,
I love the pictures from Snowy Vermont! I so look forward to your Letter. Thanks for sharing the warmth! Looking forward to your next Letter. Regards, Elissa.
Dear Mr. Kimball,
Kim Gomez
I would like to tell you just how much I enjoyed those pictures of “Winter In Vermont”! Thank you so much for sharing those and I AM jealous…I don’t know what’s going on, but I live on the Gulf Coast in Spring, Texas, and we have all but stopped having any real winter. So, those pictures were extra beautiful to me because I have always loved all four seasons for their own special offerings and welcome the opportunity to not only see a snowy landscape, but scenes from the Vermont countryside with barns and other architecture. GORGEOUS! Have you thought of doing a book with these pics, and more? Perhaps have one book for each season and whoever did this photography should do the rest because the style is perfect. OOH, I hope you do these four books! Thanks again.
Great pictures
no snow in Brentwood, Ca
I love your snow pics they make me happy i live in Florida. Joe
Until I was 8, I enjoyed those magical white Christmas mornings of New York. These many years since then, and I won’t divulge how many years there have been, I have enjoyed the crisp sunny winter days of So Cal. Even though there have been a few beautiful Christmas breakfasts on the beach, the real magic remains in the memories of snow. Your pics bring it all back. Love them and thanks for sharing! Wishing you and all the ATK and Cooks Country experts the very best for 2013! See you on Saturdays!!
i have a place at smugglers notch and a place in burlington and i enjoyed the photos, Vermont has a different karma and when i cross over from the Mass border i fell the stress flow away
