The parade for Old Home Day is on Saturday but the festivities start on Thursday evening.

This old hose setup doesn't get much use anymore but the fire department is still all-volunteer and George Lewis is still the Fire Chief.

This truck got dolled up as a movable landscape. Not quite sure what the goose is doing on the hood!

This old tractor is testament to never throwing anything out…and at least it's paid for!

Jed and his wife Mandy have some of the best floats and costumes. These are hand-drawn boxes and cans—they even have foam elbows!

Last year, this "clown" was seated on a toilet on a float! She looks better this year!

This couple were the first to step out onto the dance floor and they looked great!

This is the grown-up version, and this young man was getting a little help from his dad.

The smile on the woman’s face says how proud she is of her beautiful dog, who seems so happy to be part of the parade.
I enjoy Christopher Kimball’s letters, I think, as much as I enjoy the magazine recipes because they give a picture of what is good about America. Some may seem simplistic but they are depictions of what really matters in this life – friendships; earthly beauty; faith; unity; compassion. Thank you, Mr. Kimball.
Now that is a “real” country parade! Love the “old timey” look of it!
Looked like a good time was had by all!
Glad to see communities still having local parades and showing pride in their community.
Your Old Home Days are the same as our town’s (in NH)…
Love the picture of the Dalmation…. Happy Dog!!!!
Loved the pictures of the parade. It looked like the elder couple dancing was enjoying themselves. What fun!
Thanks for sharing!
Very similar to our Old Home Week in rural Nova Scotia. We are united more by our similarities than we are divided by our differences!
Thanks for sharing Old Home Days parade pictures. They looked as if they could have been taken in my home town near the Buffalo National River in the Ozarks of Arkansas. We all enjoy the atmosphere and spirit of a local parade in which our friends, families, and neighbors participate.
Though I live in the big city of Houston, Texas, Ibelieve I’m
a small town person. Your pictures of this way of life always
gives me hope for our country. Best wishes, always.

Silverado Canyon here in Cali is a lot like this. We have a summer monthly concert series from May to September where admission is 2 cans of food that goes to the food bank. We have an “Unparade” because… well, we just all start marching down the main road from the volunteer fire station to Canyon Market. So very glad that such places still exist and always love to hear about yours.
This looks like the parade I used to go to in Norwich, VT! All home-town home-made. Boy, do I miss that!
