Here are some photos of a long hike I took recently, starting from the very top of the mountain and then headed down into the hollows. These will give you a good sense of why I love Vermont so much and our farm in particular. Hiking is a whole lot better than reading the newspaper these days!
Fern

A lovely field of fern.
Sign

A new sign and an old one. Some are so old that you can't even make out the words.
Mushrooms

Small mushrooms -- it had been a very wet spring.
Tangled

A great tangled mess, or, a tree!
Field

A small field that needs cutting. I often see deer in this area in the fall.
On the trail

A small culvert under a logging trail.
Wild turkeys

This flock of wild turkeys hangs out in this area. And, yes, they can fly but not very far.
Blackberry bushes

Blackberry bushes are setting fruit now for the mid-August picking.
Wildflower

A great time for wildflowers.
Wildflowers

No, I don't pick the wildflowers. Just take the odd snap or two.
Mountaintop View

The view from the mountaintop. Beats a crowded beach in July!

(I have been an internet subscriber of America’ Test K. for several years: why did I have to re-register? )
However, reason I am writing is to comment on those turkeys. Here in LA, they’d have been in flight, were you close enough to photograph them.
Nice flock. Beautiful pics. Your blackberries don’t ripen until August? Incredible. Ours have been gone. (Turkeys love them, too.)
I like all your pictures. I saw a strutting turkey yesterday. I often see them in the country – southwest Wisconsin.
Hi arjdir – The Feed has a separate registration management system from the other America’s Test Kitchen websites. But thank you for joining the Feed community… and welcome!
I’m a long-time fan of ATK, Cooks Illustrated, and Cook’s Country. I’m also fortunate enough to live in the beautiful Green Mountain State – a bit north of where the Cook’s Country house is, but in the hills with a spectacular view of Mount Mansfield out our window.
We saw some of the most adorable baby turkeys this past week. One of those times when I wish I’d had a camera in my hand instead of a steering wheel!
I live in Arizona and hike all the time… Your pictures look like they were taken by me on my hike… We see green fern, wild flowers(and do not pick), twisted trees, wild turkey, Mountain views, meadows and logging roads, deer and elk and berry bushes..
Wow! Isn’t it amazing that our hikes provide the same views and we live hundreds of miles apart..!!!
At my age of 75, I am so blessed that I can still do this…There are so many great trails in our mountains of northern Arizona.

While on vacation in Yarmouth on Cape Cod last week we had
3 wild turkeys come into the yard of the home we were
renting. Another day we observed a mother and her 5 young.
We were told that last year there were about 15 in the same
neighborhood!!
