Name: Chef’s Choice 840 WafflePro Express
Price: $69.95, available on Amazon
It looks like: A high-tech waffle iron with insulated handles. You can choose between two models: one creates the classic Belgian circular waffle, and the other presses out a “Five of Hearts” cloverleaf shape.
How it’s supposed to work: The WafflePro Express claimed to produce waffles that were evenly cooked and consistently browned from the beginning to the end of a batch—in six different shades from light to dark.
How we tested it: We made many, many batches of waffles to test the appliance’s different settings. In addition to its six shade settings, it offers two texture settings (for a uniform bake or a crisp outside/moist inside).
How it actually works: Thick heating coils extending beneath most of its cooking surface helped this iron efficiently turn out even, beautifully cooked waffles, no matter the temperature setting. It took an average of 2 minutes and 56 seconds to cook one waffle.
Good to know: The insulated handle and stay-cool casing are nice safety features.
My favorite part: This iron beeps and has a light to indicate when the waffles are ready.
Best for: Any waffle situation, from a brunch-party marathon to a quick weekday treat.
Overall: The WafflePro Express has ironed out all the waffle-making kinks; we highly recommend it.
