Ice cream is summer’s perfect dessert. A warm puddle of ice cream—not so much. With the Zak! Designs Ice Cream Tubbie, you can have your ice cream and eat it, too.
Gadget Name: Zak! Designs Ice Cream Tubbie
It looks like: A brightly colored plastic food storage container just the size and shape of a pint of ice cream.
How it’s supposed to work: The Tubbie uses foam-core insulation and a gel pack-lined lid to keep ice cream frozen.
How we tested it: After storing the empty container in the freezer for two hours to le the gel pack freeze completely, we filled it with homemade vanilla ice cream and left it out on the kitchen counter.
How it actually works: Our ice cream was still fully frozen three hours later—well past the manufacturer’s promise of 90 minutes.
Drawbacks: Just one—and it’s small. We found the lid tricky to open after long stints in the freezer, but running the container under warm water for 10 seconds easily solved the problem.
Good to know: We found that the lid is easier to open if you don’t screw it on super-tight to begin with.
Overall: We’ll be using the Tubbie for outdoor parties and picnics and long rides home from the supermarket in hot weather (a pint container of store-bought ice cream fits perfectly).
