Stocking Stuffer Idea: OXO “Good Cookie” Spatula

Because you’ve been such a good, good cookie this year.

All month we’ll be highlighting some of the Test Kitchen’s favorite gadgets for gift-giving. We’re kicking things off with a handy kitchen tool that’s not only a baker’s friend, but also a sweet way to support pediatric cancer research.

Gadget name: OXO “Good Cookie” Spatula

Price: $6.99

It looks like: This is a remarkably small, maneuverable silicone spatula that’s safe for nonstick cookware. This special charity edition is produced in a cheerful lime green with “be a good cookie” imprinted on its head.

How it’s supposed to work: The silicone outer layer, which is heat resistant to 600 degrees and safe for nonstick cookware, surrounds a stable stainless-steel core. It is also dishwasher-safe.

How it actually works: In our testing, the flexible edge of its 2 by 3-inch head, attached to an angled 6.5-inch handle, glided effortlessly beneath sugar, chocolate, and oatmeal raisin cookies as well as brownies.

Good to know: Each purchase of this limited-edition cookie spatula will help OXO support Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a 501(c)3 non-profit committed to raising awareness of and funds for pediatric cancer research.

My favorite part: This small spatula is the perfect size for getting in between cookies on a crowded baking sheet or removing brownies from a pan.

Overall: If you’re an avid baker, the OXO “Good Cookie” Spatula is an ideal addition to your kitchen.

What kind of cookies are you making for the holiday?

Have to tell you, I’ve owned several OXO silicone coated spatulas and have had each and every one crack at the edge where the silicon meets the hard inner part of the spatula. Buyer beware on these spatulas.
