A product that you might be tempted by is the Cuisipro Ice Cream Scoop & Stack. This little device is supposed to punch down into hard ice cream and pull up a perfect cylinder of ice cream, about the diameter of an ice cream cone. Then you push a button to dispense the ice cream.
It sounds kind of cool, but it just does not work. If the ice cream is very hard, you kill yourself trying to push it in; if it’s at all soft, it goes in and won’t come out. Even if you get it to come out, it never has that perfect shape you see on the box, looking fancy on top of a dessert. For $15, don’t waste your money.
Does presentation matter to you when it comes to serving ice cream?

Lisa – Thanks for the info. Just saw this at my local kitchen store and was thinking of adding it to my – unnecessarily large – collection of ice cream scoops. Presentation IS important to me, but I really like that perfect round traditional scoop. I get it by making my ice cream, curing in a loaf pan and dragging the scoop over the extra long “runway” for the perfect sphere! I’m pretty sure I learned this from ATK!
