Here’s something that just doesn’t work: a food chopper. We’ve all seen those TV ads for the Slap Chop—you load in onions or carrots or other vegetables, then slap down on the plastic top, which pushes blades down to chop everything.
We tested several models, hoping we’d find a good one, but—no dice. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.) The best of a bad lot was Zyliss’s Easy Chop, which costs about $20.
But save your money. These machines chop and mash everything unevenly, they constantly get jammed, and they’re a pain to clean. Just use a chef’s knife. Even if you have truly terrible knife skills, you will do a better job.
Anyone have food chopper stories to share?
