Process 2 teaspoons of minced candied ginger or 1/4 of a fresh vanilla bean with 1 cup of sugar in the food processor for between 45 seconds and 1 minute. Both of these flavored sugars are great sprinkled onto fresh fruit, atop baked goods, and in both hot and cold drinks.
Add 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder, 2 teaspoons of grated fresh zest from one lemon, lime, grapefruit, or orange, or 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon to 1 cup of sugar and pulse 20 times in the food processor.
If you make lots of recipes that call for bread crumbs, it’s a good idea to make a large batch ahead of time and freeze it in a zipper lock bag. But transferring the crumbs from the bowl of the food processor to the bag can be tricky. Try this: Remove the blade from the bowl, lift the bowl from the base, and lock the lid in place. Then invert the whole bowl to funnel the crumbs through the feed tube into the bag.
Process salted or unsalted cocktail peanuts with a teaspoon or two of oil (to facilitate mixing) until the consistency is smooth in the workbowl. If you like chunky peanut butter, leave the mixture slightly coarse.
