PLACE #1 Your Sink

The best time to realize you don’t have enough counter space to cool all of your baked goods on racks is certainly not when you’re maneuvering them out of the oven. To make room for multiple cooling racks, set one of the racks directly over the sink. It spans the sink perfectly and minimizes mess: The sink will catch any crumbs that fall through the holes.
PLACE #2 Ironing Board

Not every apartment has ample counter space, but most do have an ironing board. Hello, automatic prep space. Ironing boards are easily moveable, adjustable for height, and they provide several extra feet of space for cooling baked goods or placing bowls and utensils as you work.
PLACE #3 Drawers

Jealous of kitchen pullout cutting boards? Make your own by placing a cutting board over an opened drawer. Use it as a surface for prepping ingredients or for supporting bowls.
PLACE #4 Cabinets

Kitchen equipment that is stored in the back of deep cabinets can be difficult to reach. Rather than empty out the front of the cabinet to reach items in the back, place cookware on a rimmed baking sheet, and then pull out the sheet to access hard-to-reach items.

Ha! I always felt bad about using the ironing board. Now I’m justified.
Great ideas!!
I may have to downsize one of these days to a senior center. It has nice apts, but the kitchens are small. These are great ideas because I intend to continue baking.
can I add keep things clean and put away? The biggest hog of counter space in my kitchen is the dish drying rack. If the dishes get put away once their dry, and the rack can go under the sink where it nominally lives, it frees up a lot of counter space. Unfortunately, this almost never happens.
